The Princeton Tango club, in collaboration with with Legacy Arts International, is excited to announce that Heyni Solera and Rodrigo Avalos will be joining us for for a weekend diving into the music of tango. If you are interested in stepping up your musicality game as a dancer, better understanding the structure and dynamics of tango music, learning about the contemporary tango scene and the new golden age of tango we are living in, or simply interested in hearing some amazing artists play, then you will not want to miss this weekend!

Saturday, September 28th. We are thrilled to be hosting Heyni for the second time at Princeton. Her knowledge, clarity, and passion for tango music, dance, and culture is informative and inspiring. This is a chance to take a big step forward in your understanding of tango music and musicality. It is also an opportunity to learn about the cultural significance of tango music and learn about the thriving contemporary scene for tango music.

Sunday, September 29th there will be a concert hosted by Legacy Arts International with Heyni Solera and Rodrigo Avalos, who form the Avalos-Solera Bandoneon Duo. This will be a unique opportunity to hear these amazing artists live.

Meet the Artists – Heyni Solera

Praised for her “soulful bandoneón” (Washington Classical Review), Heyni Solera is an accomplished and sought after bandoneonist, composer, and ethnomusicologist who has performed in prestigious locations such as the Centro Cultural Kirchner in Argentina and the Kennedy center in Washington D.C. Heyni has produced multiple albums and is a member of several accomplished orchestras and duos.

Heyni is also a scholar of Ethnomusicology and has presented numerous lectures on the music and history of tango, including at Princeton University, where Heyni presented her lecture ‘Today’s Woman in Tango: Carving Out Spaces’.

Meet The Artists – Rodrigo Avalos

Rodrigo Avalos is an Argentine composer, arranger, bandoneon and guitar player. He was born
in Olavarría and started his musical studies at an early age.

In 2017, he graduated from the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda as a guitar tango
player. Since that year, he began studying composition with Gabriel Senanes.
Between 2016 and 2019, he was the musical director of the Orquesta Típica La Carmen, an
orchestra of twelve musicians. This orchestra performed his arrangements and original
compositions, and played in many theaters and milongas of Buenos Aires.

Currently, Rodrigo is working as a bandoneon professor at the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires
Tango Orchestra and was also a part of the Orquesta Escuela Emilio Balcarce. As a composer, he
is writing music for various ensembles and film scores.
